James and me in the park (probably either Bushy, or Richmond). James appears to be clutching some kind of yellow fluffy thing – almost certainly a gonk. I’m going to hazard a guess that this is around 1967, based on the fact that I’m toddling about but must surely have a nappy somewhere in those shorts.

I am sure we (or maybe dad) won the ‘gonk’ at Hampton Court Fair.
Though we called it a gonk I don’t think it was what is widely accepted as one of these toys.
It was just a big piece of yellow fluff with two eyes stuck on, no doubt made to the same high standards as fairground prizes are made to this day.
